⁣Mrs. Undercover is a Bollywood film directed by Anushree Mehta and released in 2021. The film stars Radhika Apte, Sumeet Vyas, and Jitendra Kumar in lead roles.
The movie tells the story of Durga (Radhika Apte), a housewife and mother who is bored with her mundane life. One day, she receives a call from an intelligence agency, asking her to go undercover to expose a dangerous gang involved in illegal activities. Initially hesitant, Durga eventually agrees and transforms into a spy, leaving her family behind.
The film takes a dark turn as we witness the heinous act committed by Sumeet Vyas's character, who portrays a woman-hater and a serial killer. The film uses this as a backdrop to showcase the dangers women face in society and how the male-dominated system often fails to protect them.
Radhika Apte's portrayal of Durga is commendable as she balances her role as a mother and a spy, struggling with guilt and the fear of putting her family in danger. Jitendra Kumar plays her supportive husband who stands by her through thick and thin.
The film does struggle to find a balance between the seriousness of its subject matter and its attempt at humor, which can come across as insensitive. However, the performances of the actors and the engaging plot make up for the film's shortcomings.
